Help Wanted: Facilitator – Time for Two Playgroups
Reports to: Community Outreach Coordinator
Salary: $32.00/hr
Type of Position: Contract, 3 hours per week per playgroup
Duration: 12 weeks (September – December 2023) , with possibility of extension after probationary period
The West Island Women’s Centre provides support to all women who seek its services – mothers, women with part-time or full-time jobs outside the home, women entrepreneurs, seniors, and women in financial difficulty. Our free community outreach initiatives include support groups, Moms & children activities, seniors groups, language classes, female adolescent workshops and programs for women who have recently immigrated to Québec.
Since October 2005, the Centre has been offering Time for Two, a free bilingual arts and crafts playgroup. This program encourages a positive and joyful experience to share between mother and child as well as offers the opportunity for mothers to interact with each other. Mothers help to create an enriching environment in which their child can learn and grow. With the help of the facilitator, they also learn to incorporate reading, art, movement into their daily family life.
The Centre is currently looking for 1- 2 Facilitators for Time for Two North and Time for Two South for the upcoming Fall 2023 session.
Starting in September, Time for Two North will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 9:30am – 11:30am at the Centre’s location in Pierrefonds, while Time for Two South will meet weekly on Fridays from 9am – 11am at the Women’s Centre in Pointe-Claire.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate arts and crafts activities, games and play for children ages 0-5 and their mothers.
- Create safe and informal opportunities for mothers to meet other mothers and share their experiences, develop new friendships, and build a support network.
- Provide content on a weekly basis.
- Encourage conversation and sharing of participants.
- Be part of an important West Island resource for all women in the community and help expand the Centre’s impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual (French and English).
- Experience in Early Childhood Education
- A warm, caring and positive profile.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating, coaching or guiding groups with a participatory approach and in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Experience with arts, crafts and creative play for preschool children.
- Experience in a community organization would be an asset.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Comfort working autonomously and in a team environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
- Ability to act calmly and quickly to de-escalate situations in a professional manner.
- Collect and prepare any data or reporting, as may be required by the Outreach Coordinator
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined by the West Island Women’s Centre.
