Free Seminar: Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages: The Transformative Power of Fair Trade

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

1-3 p.m.

Fair trade has become a common term in our world with a variety of meanings. Dix Mille Villages/Ten Thousand Villages has worked for 38 years in Canada to pay fair wages to artisans, who are often women. From communities throughout the developing world, every inspired design is crafted with love using local materials (usually natural or recycled) and time honoured skills. These long term, fair trade relationships improve the lives of artisans by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income, which allows them to support their families and their communities.

Come and learn about gifted artisans, and how your purchases can make a difference! Hear individual stories. Enjoy activities and discussion about the transformative power of fair trade.

Our presenters Lara Scholey and Marie-Josée Drouin are Board members of Dix Mille Villages Pointe-Claire. Lara is the minister of St Columba by-the-Lake Presbyterian Church and a mom of 3 teenagers. Marie-Josée is an interior designer and a mom of two boys.

Free childcare for preschool-aged children is also available, but you must register for this service by 3 p.m. the day before the seminar takes place.

Please register for the seminar and childcare online, by calling the office at 514-695-8529, or by e-mailing womenscentre@wiwc.ca.
