Celebrating a Year of Growth, Community and Impact.

On June 18, members, volunteers, staff, Board Directors, community partners, and supporters gathered for the West Island Women’s Centre’s Annual General Meeting to reflect on another meaningful year of connection, learning, and empowerment.

This year’s AGM was especially significant as we celebrated 50 years of supporting women in our community. Since opening our doors in 1975, the Centre has continued to evolve alongside the changing needs of women, providing opportunities to connect, build confidence, learn new skills, and find support through every stage of life.

Supporting Women Through Every Stage of Life

Over the past year, the Centre continued its mission of empowering women through programs, services, and opportunities that foster connection, learning, well-being, and personal growth.

Today, the West Island Women’s Centre supports more than 1,500 women each year through over 271 courses, workshops, support groups, and community initiatives. These programs help women build confidence, navigate life transitions, develop new skills, improve their well-being, and create meaningful social connections.

While these numbers help tell part of the story, the true impact of the Centre is reflected in the women who find support during difficult times, form lasting friendships, discover a renewed sense of purpose, and experience a stronger sense of belonging within their community.

During the AGM, attendees learned about several key achievements and developments from the past year, including:

  • Continued growth in program offerings and participation
  • Expansion of workshops, support groups, and wellness initiatives
  • New partnerships that strengthened our ability to serve women across the West Island and beyond
  • Ongoing efforts to reduce barriers to participation through initiatives such as free on-site childcare
  • Increased community engagement and outreach
  • Progress toward the goals outlined in the Centre’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan

Looking Ahead

The coming year will focus on strengthening the Centre’s long-term sustainability, increasing community awareness, expanding partnerships, enhancing program offerings, and diversifying funding sources to ensure that women continue to have access to the support and resources they need.

As communities evolve and women’s needs continue to change, the West Island Women’s Centre remains committed to being a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space where women can connect, learn, grow, and thrive.
