International Women’s Day 2026: A Celebration of Strength, Connection, and Community

The West Island Women’s Centre was proud to host a meaningful and energizing International Women’s Day event at the DDO Civic Centre — bringing together women from across the community for an afternoon of connection, reflection, and empowerment.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of purpose. A strong turnout of women —along with a few supportive men — all united in the spirit of empowerment and shared experience.

Guiding the afternoon with warmth and ease, Sabrina Marandola, host of Let’s Go on CBC Radio One Montreal, served as Master of Ceremonies, creating a seamless and engaging experience from start to finish.

The program featured a powerful keynote by Erica Diamond, whose message resonated deeply, offering both inspiration and practical insight on resilience, self-worth, and navigating today’s challenges.

A highlight of the afternoon was the panel discussion featuring Akilah Newton, Jennifer Crawford, Talia Brott, and Tynesha Mullings, who spoke openly and honestly about the issues that matter most to them. These conversations created space for reflection, validation, and connection — reminding attendees that many of their experiences are shared, and that support exists within the community.

Beyond the stage, the impact of the event was felt in the connections made. Conversations flowed easily, new relationships were formed, and a strong sense of belonging was present throughout the room. Guests also enjoyed music and delicious food, contributing to an environment that felt both uplifting and inclusive.
