Silent Auction Fundraiser

The 24th Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser event was a fantastic success! Together, we raised $22,000 benefitting the West Island Women’s Centre!   The event kicked-off with Jessica Rusnak, Sports Columnist from CBC Daybreak, our incredible emcee revealing 12 amazing door prizes! There was something for everyone. With more than 340 items up for bid, it was a night of excitement and shopping extravaganza for our 220 plus guests. Core Pilates – Low Intensity

Wednesday 8:40 - 9:40 a.m. Gym This class will give you a full body workout.  Core Pilates will maintain the Pilates techniques of proper breathing, posture and alignment with a focus on your core muscles through movement in various positions.  It will help to improve core control, build strength, flexibility, balance, posture, mobility, and stability. If you want to challenge your core, tone up, and transform your body, Core Pilates is perfect for you! This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Breastfeeding Drop-in Clinic on Thursday afternoons

Every Thursday 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. St. Columba Church Hall (adjacent to the kitchen) Breastfeeding moms, new moms, and expectant moms are invited to drop by the weekly breastfeeding clinic run by our local health service (CIUSSS ODIM/MWI IUHSSC). It’s a great opportunity to meet other moms, weigh your baby, and discuss your health questions with a nurse. Different topics will be discussed, depending on the needs of the group. A nourishing drop-in for mom and baby/child! Spouses supporting their breastfeeding partners are welcome too! It’s Parent Appreciation Day!

Looking for something fun to on Saturday, June 3? Grandir Ensemble in collaboration with the City of Dorval is hosting an event in honour of La semaine québécoise des familles -- Parent Appreciation Day! There will be lots to do and the event promises to spoil parents as well as their children: pampering, arts and crafts, food, games, and lots more! The Women's Centre will have a booth at the event and a fun activity for the children to do. Drop by to say hello! The event takes place on Saturday, June 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surrey Community Centre in Dorval North (1945 Parkfield Ave., Dorval, H9P 1T8).  

WIWC Re-Opens for Classes and Activities Tuesday, May 9

All classes and activities will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9, at the Women's Centre. We look forward to welcoming everyone back! Note that some schools in both the Lester B. Pearson and Marguerite Bourgeoys re-open on Tuesday, but not all. Cultivating the Habits of Supremely Happy People

In recent years, there have been a number of studies that look at the habits of people who are generally happy. We will focus on a few of these habits each support group meeting. Participants will be expected to try and develop these habits over the course of the sessions, to journal about the results of implementing these habits, and then share what they have learned from this process with the group. We will also look at the difference between moments of happiness and real joy that lasts and how to cultivate this deeper form of happiness. Our Summer of Computer Fun!

This summer, the work has continued on the Women's Centre's online registration project.  We have been greatly assisted by our very dedicated summer student, Srivishalatshi Chidhambaram. A huge thank you goes out to Visha! We hope members will be able to register for their courses in the comfort of their own homes in the not too far-off future. In the meantime, the work continues and so too will in-person registration sessions! From time to time, we'll be testing different processes on our website. We hope this will not be too disruptive and we thank you for your patience!

Volunteers Needed for St. Columba's  Window Marché Every Friday, volunteers from St. Columba Church set up a lovely window market in our shared hallway where they sell fresh baked goods, soups, and conveniently-packaged meals to go. Members who participate in Friday classes have no doubt seen and enjoyed the Marché! St. Columba considers the Marché an outreach and fellowship activity with the Women's Centre and the community at large. St. Columba is looking for more volunteers to help with this initiative. Stories and Art (2-3 yrs with Mom)

Monday 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. Upstairs Classroom For Mommy and me! Children and their moms enjoy a story-time circle and then work together to create a piece of art related to the story. It is all about the children having fun while developing self-esteem and pride in their work. It is advised that children bring a smock to wear during creative time.
