News from the Women’s Centre Welcome to the beginning of a very special year at the West Island Women’s Centre! This year, we celebrate our organization’s 40th anniversary. We have arrived at this important milestone thanks to a huge number of women. From the small group who worked together to create our organization back in 1975 to last year’s stellar team of volunteers and staff, the Women’s Centre’s story is filled with hardworking and inspiring women. Centraide of Greater Montreal

Centraide of Greater Montreal is an independent philanthropic organization that raises donations from the public to support a vast network of community agencies that help individuals and families in a situation of poverty and social exclusion in Laval, on the Island of Montreal, and on part of the South Shore.

Week 1: It will be a busy Monday through Thursday with making baskets, bunny hats, and hatching chicks as well as making Passover place mats and Seder cups. There will also be an Easter egg hunt on Thursday! Week 2: In honour of Earth Day on Tuesday we will be learning how to recycle using things found on the ground ( sticks, acorns etc.) and turn them into creative art. It would be great if each child brought in one or two small items that they found to turn into their own creation or collage. Gift certificates now available!

The West Island Women's Centre now has gift certificates available in denominations of $25, $50 and $100! These would make a perfect holiday or birthday gift for any woman. To purchase one just come into the office during regular hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. We accept cheques and cash only. Our gift certificates can be used for membership and course fees. Gift certificates are non-refundable and unused balances cannot be exchanged for cash but can be applied to courses in future sessions. In the case of course cancellations, used amounts will be re-applied to the certificate.

Flex Workshop 1: You and the Importance of a Notarized Will and Mandate

We all want our best for our families and strive to keep them safe and protected. What happens if you become incapacitated? How can you protect yourself and your loved ones? How do wills and mandates differ? In this informative workshop, notary Sabrini Crespi will review the benefits of having these documents done and touch on some of the consequences of not doing so. This workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 9th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
